<HIMEJI KUROZAN/ Himeji Kurozan Leather >
This is a work of art made using two techniques: tanning techniques that bring out the charm of natural leather, and rigorous painting techniques that make the most of the beauty of the leather's grain surface.
Himeji Kurozan Leather is made from domestically raised Japanese Black cattle, combining the ancient Japanese techniques of tanning and lacquering. Nicknamed the "black diamond of leather," Kurozan Leather is so beautiful it looks as if it were inlaid with countless tiny diamonds. It is also resistant to friction, and is currently used for martial arts equipment such as kendo chest armor, and is said to have been used for the armor of generals during the Sengoku period.
