MATERIAL
KUROZAN
The hides of Japanese black cattle are dehaired and tanned white, then lacquered by hand on the raised areas of the embossed grain. By repeatedly drying and applying layers of lacquer, the gloss and volume of the lacquer are created, and the black luster becomes deeper. There are only a few workshops in Japan that have inherited this technique, and even a skilled craftsman can only produce around 20 pieces a month, making this an extremely valuable material. Please enjoy the unique texture that combines lacquer and leather.
MATERIAL
AIZAN
The hides of Japanese black cattle are dehaired and tanned white, then lacquer is applied by hand to the raised areas of the embossed grain to create Sanzan leather. By repeatedly drying and applying layers of lacquer, the lacquer becomes lustrous and voluminous, and the gloss deepens. Indigo Sanzan leather is dyed with "natural indigo," making it rarer than Kurosanzan leather. Each piece is dyed by immersing it in a vat of real indigo, so it takes longer to prepare than Kurosanzan leather, and because the raw materials are carefully selected, it is so rare that we don't know when the material will arrive.
